Jones Pass, topping out at 12,454 ft, is a mountain pass that crosses the Continental Divide in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. It is 7.2 miles out and back with about 2,000 feet of elevation gain from base to summit. The road is a chunky jeep track that switches back steeply through a dense pine forest until emerging into the tundra and opening up into a massive bowl traversed by streams and falls of snowmelt runoff and surrounded by high, snow-spotted summits. To the east, the gold and red mountain interior is visible due to the Henderson malignum mine. The riding up here is no joke—pitches of up to 20% between 10,500 and 12,500 feet make for some hearty lungs, but the views, wildflowers, glacial streams and seclusion of the location make the effort well worth it.
